Early Prevention for Skin Cancer
May 23, 2011, 5:05 pm
We're getting closer to summer, which means more time outside in the sunshine.? Doctors are reminding the public to be safe when soaking up some sun.? Dr. Jay Kang, a Dermatologist with UPMC Hamot says that he's seen a rise in skin cancer patients, mostly young women. He has treated a range of patients with skin cancer who have?admitted to not protecting their skin from dangerous UV rays.
Doctors say that although skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in the?U.S., it is also fairly easy to prevent.? Sunscreen, sunblocks and hats are easy ways to protect the skin from?sun damage.?
Early detection is also critical. Any unusual changes in the skin is a strong indication to see a doctor.? While there is very little?anyone can do to reverse sun damage, the safest bet is to protect the skin early on -- which will help keep away problems later in life.
