Radford University administrator Brad Epperley has been named as Christiansburg?s new parks and recreation director.

Epperley will start his new position on March 5, the town announced Friday.

Epperley is a senior administrator and director of athletic facilities and operations at Radford University. The university?s website said he also worked as Salem?s sports supervisor and manager of the city?s James I. Moyer Sports Complex and Salem Kiwanis Baseball Field, coordinated various athletic tournaments, and was the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation?s chief ranger at Claytor Lake.

He is a 1997 Radford University graduate, the university website said. A New River Valley native, he lives on a Montgomery County farm with his wife and two sons, Christiansburg?s announcement said.

In the announcement, Town Manager Barry Helms said Epperley?s experience and enthusiasm made him an ?obvious choice? for parks and recreation director job.

Epperley is succeeding Art Price, who is retiring after 29 years with the town.
