Milwaukee police detective, union official won't face charges

Milwaukee police detective arrested

MILWAUKEE -

The Milwaukee County district attorney said a high-profile Milwaukee police detective and union leader arrested early Thursday will not be charged.??

Rodolfo Gomez works as a detective in the department's Criminal Investigation Bureau and was a key witness last fall against a Milwaukee woman charged with killing a woman to steal her unborn child.

Gomez was arrested after an incident at his north side home early Thursday.

Last year, 12 News revealed that Gomez was the target of an internal investigation after a man accused him of attacking him for dancing with another officer's wife at a south side tavern.

Prosecutors did not charge Gomez in that case.

Milwaukee's police chief declined to comment on Gomez' case.

"We have a 2,700-member organization. The difference between us and other 2,700-member organizations is when there's misconduct, ours is news," Chief Ed Flynn said.

Gomez has been with the department for 10 years and is on the board of the Milwaukee Police Union.

Union representatives also declined comment, saying they were waiting for details on Gomez' arrest.
