Montie Design Participates in NCDBA, NCMBC Defense Industry ...

(Morrisville, N.C.) Montie Design, an innovative concept-to-marketplace product design and development firm, recently participated in two key defense industry events in Research Triangle Park and Wilmington, N.C. Company President Montie Roland spoke at the North Carolina Defense Business Association (NCDBA) Breakfast with a Prime March 13th, and was an exhibitor in the North Carolina Military Business Center (NCMBC) Sustainability Symposium and Expo March 16th.

?Our core competencies in mechanical engineering, industrial design, and prototyping translate well into a plethora of different projects for defense contractors and affiliated vendors,? Roland said.

Montie Design is currently designing a salt fog environmental test chamber for use by the Department of Defense.

The standing-room-only NCDBA Breakfast with a Prime featured keynotes by officials with Cisco and RTI, and was the highest-attended such event the organization has ever had. The NCMBC Sustainability Forum featured day-long sessions exploring inter-related aspects of incorporating sustainability practices, training, and opportunities for business, industry, federal and state agencies, and the public. Murray Duff, Mobility Programs Manager, with the Cisco Global Government Solutions Group presented an overview of the work his group does in the defense market space.

?The Sustainability Event provided me personally with a great framework for looking at Montie Design and our Montie Gear products through a lens of sustainability. Sustainability goes beyond much of the current greenwash associated with many ?green initiates? by providing specific tools, approaches and metrics for a manufacturers to use in evaluating their manufacturing processes and making better purchasing decisions. I was so impressed with the methodology presented by TS Designs that we are currently working on a sustainability infographic for our Montie Gear AR-Rest product,? Roland said.

The firm?s activity in defense industry events comes on the heels of the successful completion of a complex tolerance analysis and reference design project for Molex, an international supplier of interconnect products. While Montie Design was designing a reference enclosure utilizing Molex Impact? Ortho Direct connectors in a typical mount application, they received a request from Molex for a step-by-step tolerance analysis of the design for Ortho Direct connector customers.

The Molex connectors are used in multiple applications such as wire-to-wire, modular jacks, wire-to-board and board-to-board. Montie Design had to create a tolerance analysis that was easy-to-follow and understandable for a wide variety of engineers and designers across the U.S. and overseas.

Montie Design remains active in the defense industry as well as numerous design and engineering groups and organizations throughout North Carolina. The firm will soon be announcing winners of its Winter 2012 Student Design Contest for aspiring product designers in community colleges, four-year colleges, or high schools from North Carolina and Virginia. Contest participants were tasked with developing outdoor, shooting, hunting, archery, and camping products.

Montie Design will be hosting a ?Final Friday? End of Quarter Networking Event Friday, March 30 from 4 - 6:30 p.m. at its headquarters in Morrisville. This free come-as-you-are networking event provides a casual atmosphere for networking with fellow engineers and industrial designers with music and refreshments.
