Life Vs Home Improvement Best Laid Plans: Life Vs Home ImprovementWe have been planning for over a month now to redo the stairs. I?ve searched for ideas, bought the supplies, and scheduled no less than 3 work days. It seemed like a fairly simple process ? pull up the carpet, paint the stairs, choose a decorating scheme.

Then, life happened.

At first, we had trouble finding a free weekend. There was volleyball, soccer, Girl Scouts, and school activities. Once we made it through the sports? seasons, we had a little more time on our hands. I thought for sure we?d be able to tackle the project in just a few hours. Yeah, I?m hilarious.

On our first planned work weekend, the tween was diagnosed with scarlet fever (no, seriously) so the weekend was spent hauling her to the doctor, then the urgent care center, and then to the pharmacy. We spent the rest of the weekend nursing her back to health and keeping the children separated.

I can?t even remember what happened the next weekend, but I know the work day disappeared before I even knew it. Finally, I just started ripping out the carpet. I thought I could at least see what it would take to make it happen. The next thing I knew, I had ripped all the carpet out and was pretty much locked into the project.

When the hubby arrived home and saw what I was doing, he didn?t even roll his eyes before pitching in and finishing the job. The stairs are clear ? and I already love it so much more than the old, ratty carpet.

That was when I realized the stairs needed a little trim work before they could be finished. There were a few gaps here and there, due to the builders not taking the time to finish them properly. After all, they probably never imagined an insane woman ripping out the carpet one random Saturday night.

By that point, Home Depot was closed so our project was on hold. And Sunday was already booked. The rest of the week was fall break, with family fun activities and kids underfoot all day. Today was supposed to be another work day, but I hadn?t considered the evening?s plans with this idea. The girls are having friends spend the night, which makes dealing with wet paint a little difficult.

Okay, so tomorrow, right? Except by the time all our visitors are home, we still have the problem of finishing the job and getting the paint dried before the girls need to go up stairs for bed. And, this is a problem every weekend ? the girls are around, the pets are in the way. How do we paint stairs in a busy house?

I think we?ll have to get started early one morning, right after the girls are at school. Even if the stairs are not dried before they get home, at least we?ll have a few more hours to bedtime. Now, who wants to keep 2 cats and a dog while we paint?

(AP) ? British researcher John Gurdon and Shinya Yamanaka of Japan won this year's Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine on Monday for discovering that mature, specialized cells of the body can be reprogrammed into stem cells ? a discovery that scientists hope to turn into new treatments.

Scientists want to harness that reprogramming to create replacement tissues for treating diseases like Parkinson's and diabetes, and for studying the roots of diseases in the laboratory.

The prize committee at Stockholm's Karolinska Institute said the discovery has "revolutionized our understanding of how cells and organisms develop."

Gurdon showed in 1962 ? the year Yamanaka was born ? that the DNA from specialized cells of frogs, like skin or intestinal cells, could be used to generate new tadpoles. That showed the DNA still had its ability to drive the formation of all cells of the body.

In 1997, the cloning of Dolly the sheep by other scientists showed that the same process Gurdon discovered in frogs would work in mammals.

More than 40 years after Gurdon's discovery, in 2006, Yamanaka showed that a surprisingly simple recipe could turn mature cells back into primitive cells, which in turn could be prodded into different kinds of mature cells.

Basically, the primitive cells were the equivalent of embryonic stem cells, which had been embroiled in controversy because to get human embryonic cells, human embryos had to be destroyed. Yamanaka's method provided a way to get such primitive cells without destroying embryos.

"The discoveries of Gurdon and Yamanaka have shown that specialized cells can turn back the developmental clock under certain circumstances," the committee said. "These discoveries have also provided new tools for scientists around the world and led to remarkable progress in many areas of medicine."

Just last week, Japanese scientists reported using Yamanaka's approach to turn skin cells from mice into eggs that produced baby mice.

Gurdon, 79, has served as a professor of cell biology at Cambridge University's Magdalene College and is currently at the Gurdon Institute in Cambridge, which he founded. Yamanaka, 50, worked at the Gladstone Institute in San Francisco and Nara Institute of Science and Technology in Japan. He is currently at Kyoto University and also affiliated with the Gladstone Institute. Yamanaka is the first Japanese scientist to win the Nobel medicine award since 1987.

"From now on, I'd like to make a contribution to society in a real sense. I feel a great sense of responsibility," Yamanaka said at a news conference in Japan. "I want to use our medical breakthrough for medical purposes."

Choosing Yamanaka as a Nobel winner just six years after his discovery was unusual. The Nobel committees typically reward research done more than a decade ago, to make sure it has stood the test of time.

In 2010, the Nobel Prize in physics went to two researchers whose discoveries were also published six years earlier. In 2006, two American scientists won the medicine prize eight years after their work was published.

Prize committee member Juleen Zierath said Gurdon and Yamanaka's discoveries, which also earned them a Lasker award for basic research in 2009, could hold "immense potential," including in developing treatments for Parkinson's disease and in making cells that produce insulin. However, she added that therapeutic implications are still far away.

The idea of reprograming cells has also been put to work in basic research on disease, through an approach sometimes called "disease in a dish."

The reprogramming allows scientists to create particular kinds of tissue they want to study, like lung tissue for studying cystic fibrosis, or brain tissue for Huntington's disease. By reprogramming cells from patients with a particular disease, they can create new tissue with the same genetic background, and study it in the lab. That can give new insights into the roots of the problem.

In addition, that approach allows them to screen drugs in the lab for possible new medicines.

Experts welcomed the announcement, praising the duo for their groundbreaking and influential discoveries in a field riddled with ethical debates.

"Everyone who works on developmental biology and on the understanding of disease mechanisms will applaud these excellent and clear choices for the Nobel Prizes," said John Hardy, professor of Neuroscience at University College London. "Countless labs' work builds on the breakthroughs they have pioneered."

Yamanaka deserves extra credit for overcoming fierce objections to the creation of embryos for research, reviving the field, said Julian Savulescu, director of Oxford University's Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics.

"Yamanaka has taken people's ethical concerns seriously about embryo research and modified the trajectory of research into a path that is acceptable for all," Savulescu said. "He deserves not only a Nobel Prize for Medicine, but a Nobel Prize for Ethics."

Goran Hansson, the secretary of the prize committee, said he had reached both winners by phone before the announcement. He said they were looking forward to coming to Stockholm to collect the 8 million kronor ($1.2 million) award on Dec. 10.

The medicine award was the first Nobel Prize to be announced this year. The physics award will be announced Tuesday, followed by chemistry on Wednesday, literature on Thursday and the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday.

The economics prize, which was not among the original awards, but was established by the Swedish central bank in 1968, will be announced on Oct. 15. All prizes will be handed out on Dec. 10, the anniversary of prize founder Alfred Nobel's death in 1896.

Last year's medicine award to Canadian-born Ralph Steinman, American Bruce Beutler and French scientist Jules Hoffmann briefly created some confusion when it was announced that Steinman had died a few days earlier. Posthumous prizes are normally not allowed, but the award was left unchanged since the judges were not aware of Steinman's death when they selected him as a winner.

GM now hiring ? 10,000 computer workers

General Motors?plans to hire up to 10,000 computer professionals in the next three-to-five years as it tries to lead the auto industry with cutting-edge technology.?

The nation's biggest automaker is moving past layoffs and the Motor City's rusty, low-tech image in a?bold and expensive move to develop software and invent the most advanced gizmos for your car, rather than buy?software and other electronic applications from outside companies. Experts say it's also the start of a trend as manufacturers realize that software is among the few things that will set them apart from competitors.?

"The companies that build the software themselves in general are going to have an advantage," says David Kirkpatrick, author of a book about Facebook and CEO of Techonomy Media Inc., a New York firm that specializes in setting up technology conferences. "If you outsource the development of software in particular to others, you can risk ... your own ability to compete in the future."

General Motors Co. isn't alone in trying to move more technology development under its roof. But the plans of its biggest competitor, Ford Motor Co., aren't nearly as ambitious.

GM's aims to bring 90 percent of its computer technology work into the company by recruiting workers to four new information technology centers around the nation. Ford recently joined GM, BMW AG and Renault-Nissan in opening a technology office in California's Silicon Valley, although it's staffed by only about 15 people.

GM's first "Information Technology Innovation Center" was announced last month in Austin, Texas, with plans to hire 500 programmers and software experts. And Monday the carmaker unveiled plans to hire 1,500 more at a second computer center in Warren, Mich., on the campus of its big tech center. GM already has product designers, engineers and other technical experts at the site, including the team that created the Chevrolet Volt electric car.

The other two sites haven't been revealed.

Staff at the centers will try to stay on top of software trends. They'll develop the latest ways to link smartphones with cars or control a vehicle's heating and air conditioning with voice commands. They'll also be counted on to invent technology that no one's thought of yet. And GM also sees long-term cost savings when the centers are fully in operation.

"We're currently seeking the next generation of game-changers to help us usher in a new age of automotive innovation," says GM Chief Information Officer Randy Mott, who was Hewlett-Packard's CIO until he joined GM in February.

Although there are shortages of programmers and software engineers in some parts of the country, GM should be able to recruit enough talent by setting up shop in four different regions, experts say. With the tech-hub of Austin and GM's home base in Detroit already covered, the most likely locations for the next two centers are on the West Coast, experts say.

?GM is executing an IT best practice by in-sourcing IT services and making them a strategic part of assuring GM remains a fast-moving leader,? Rob Enderle, principal analyst at the Enderle Group in San Jose, Calif., told The Detroit Bureau. ?This is also one of the best opportunities for IT professionals to work in the automotive industry.?

Available positions include software development, project management, database management and business analysis, according to The Detroit Bureau. GM says it will offer competitive wages and benefits to pull in recent college graduates and experienced information technology professionals. The company's iconic brand status will help attract people, experts say.

But offering competitive pay will cost GM. Software engineers make $60,000 to $70,000 a year right out of college, and experienced workers can make more, says James Stoeckmann, senior compensation specialist for World at Work, an organization of human resources executives who deal with pay issues.

Expensive or not, the strategy is correct for GM as it tries to differentiate its products from other automakers, says Michael Robinet, managing director of IHS Automotive, an industry consulting firm. With the gap in quality between brands shrinking, the way a car drives and its electronics soon will be the only things that set a company apart, he says.

Currently, GM and most automakers rely on outside companies for touch screen and other technology. But often those companies sell the technology to multiple carmakers, or new software is sold in an expensive bidding war, Robinet says.

"If they have their own skunk works and they find a new technology, they are guaranteed to bring it to market first," he says.

Ford, for instance, worked with Microsoft Inc. on its pioneering Sync system, which brought voice activation technology into cars ahead of most competitors. But Ford only had exclusive use of the system for a year before Microsoft was able to license it to other companies, namely Hyundai and Kia.

Outside companies have so much expertise that it will take years for GM to catch up, making it unlikely that the company will completely walk away from outside firms, Robinet says.

Yet with software gaining so much importance in the way all companies operate, it's even possible that GM will find its next generation of leaders somewhere in the computer centers, says Kirkpatrick.

"CEOs of every company in the future are going to have to be software thinkers," he says.?

WWE takes a jab at ?The Ultimate Fighter?s? plummeting ratings

The ratings for the 16th season of "The Ultimate Fighter" have plummeted from their very low debut. Last Friday was the lowest-rated show in TUF history, and the people over at WWE couldn't help but take a shot at the UFC.

Ouch. Though it's a petty shot to take, it shows that others are noticing how the show is faltering. The debut was the lowest-rated in TUF history with 947,000 viewers, and has dropped down to 775,000. It's just not catching on with fans.

Still, UFC president Dana White told "The Ultimate Insider" this isn't a make-or-break season.

"There are some things that we all did wrong. And we need to fix them. It's all part of running a business. The thing about us is we're not afraid of taking risks. If we were, we wouldn't be sitting here right now. This whole business has been a risk since day one."

While that's effective spin on White's part, it didn't really address that people just aren't tuning into the show the way they used to. With so many fights available throughout the month and the feeling that every season is just like the one before, there isn't as much of a need to watch the show for a fight fix.

College students massacred one-by-one in Nigeria

The militant Islamist group Boko Haram means ?Western education is a sin? but it?s not clear yet if the group was behind the attack.

Unidentified gunmen massacred at least two dozen university students in northern Nigeria Monday night in the city of Mubi near the border with Cameroon. The attacks lasted more than an hour, with gunmen targeting specific students by name rather than indiscriminately firing.

Suspicion fell immediately on Boko Haram, a violent Islamist organization in northern Nigeria that has typically attacked Christian churches and security forces. Student leaders, meanwhile, suggested that the killings may have been tied to internal student political campaigns.?No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Aside from Boko Haram's history of bloody attacks on civilians, the very name of the group ? which means "Western education is a sin"?? stokes suspicion of their involvement.?But even if the group is found to be involved, the purpose of such an attack would not be part of some global jihad.

"I cringe at the 'Western education is a sin' [translation]?? there should be a modifier there. It's really Western education in Nigeria. There's a tendency to view this issue as a little wider than it is," says Gordon Bottomley, an associate at Ergo, a New York-based intelligence and advisory firm.

Boko Haram leaders associate Western education with the elites of northern Nigeria, whom the militants see as corrupt and insufficiently Islamic, says Mr. Bottomley. Boko Haram wants northern elites, politicians, and religious figures to adopt a stricter version of?sharia?law and maintain the north's identity as an Islamic region in a Christian-majority country.

"Western education encroached upon Muslim rule in northern Nigeria, so that?s the push back on it," says Mr. Bottomley. "They [Boko Haram] are not taking up the broader issue of education around the world."

The group remains shadowy, with the identity of the movement still in flux. The leadership of the group is believed to be educated, says Bottomley, but mostly in Quranic schools in Nigeria, not in Western institutions.?

The core followers of the group, including its leadership, may only number a couple hundred people, he says. Around that core are other militants whose interests may overlap, as well as another wider group of sympathizers who are not actively involved in attacks. When attacks are pinned on Boko Haram, it's not always clear how much ??if at all ? the leadership was involved. To the extent they are deciding on targets, the shifting attacks from churches, to security forces, to newspaper offices over the past six months, suggests the process is "done from the hip," Bottomley says.

Details of the attack

The state police spokesman, Ibrahim Mohammed, said the dead included 19 students from a local polytechnic university, three from a health technology school, a former soldier, and a security guard. The attack took place around 11 p.m. at night Monday and lasted for more than one hour in the suburb of Mubi called Wuro-fatuji, where student housing is located.?

?Unidentified gunmen ... invaded?an off-campus residence of the students and called out the names of their victims from a hit list whom were thereafter executed, one after the other. We have yet to blame anybody but investigation will reveal this soon," Mr. Mohammed said.

An official with Federal Polytechnic Mubi, a local university, says that 26 students of the institution were among?those massacred in the attacks, stating that the sporadic shooting kept residents of Mubi awake all night as many scampered for safety.

A student of the Polytechnic, Ambrose Adam, blamed the attack on an internal fight between the two contenders of the Student Union Government election held over the weekend at the institute whereby two candidates of different religions emerged. The northern candidate, a Muslim, won the election with the support of northerners, while southerners voted for the candidate from the south, a Christian.?

Mr. Adam says he believes the attacks were related to the tension between the two student campaigns and their supporters. ??[T]here were tribal and religious differences which have taken shape during the student elections, some were not happy with the outcome of the result, but I expect the police will come out with the genuine details,? says Adam.

The killing of the students in their off campus residence came barely a week after Nigerian security forces known as the JTF uncovered bomb factories and arrested 156 suspected terrorists in Mubi.?Other items recovered from the raid, code named "Operation Restore Sanity,? were improvised explosive devices, chemicals, arms, and ammunition, over 500 dagger knives, 9 AK-47 assault rifles, locally made pistols, and rocket launchers.

?Based on intelligence report, a combined team of the JTF isolated the?area, cordoned it, and made sure that innocent and law abiding citizens were not hurt,? Brigadier General Nwaoga stated.

The police also said a 24-hour curfew had been imposed in the area after the security operation, which was relaxed to 3 p.m. to 6 a.m.. This perhaps provided an opening for the terrorists to unleash mayhem on Monday night.

Global travel retail remains one of the most buoyant channels in the world, and not just for wines and spirits.

Overall, every category recorded growth in 2011 and in practically every market too.

The biggest growth was experienced by luxury goods, (up 19% on 2010 according to Generation Research), this was followed by fragrances and cosmetics (up 18.8%) and then alcohol (up 17.9%).

Altogether the travel retail market is worth a staggering US$46 billion and of that, wines and spirits is worth $7.6bn.

Obviously the rise of Asia and other BRIC economies is accounting for increasing sales ? particularly of high-end, premium or super-premium products ? but their ever-expanding horizons will also keep markets in the Americas and Europe extremely profitable for a long time to come.

The airports listed here are in the order given by Tax Free World Association for 2011.

Although leather does indeed become a little suppler after applying olive oil, this instant gratification comes with a price. Olive oil, and every oily substance for that matter, will not "nourish" your leather, but actually accelerate its deterioration. Leather is extremely permeable, and will soak up any oils you put on it. When oil first saturates leather, it seeps to the back-to the part you can't see. Eventually, the oil ends up spreading throughout the leather and naturally resurfaces. Once this happens, your leather will have unsightly oil spots.

That's not good. We love our clever, DIY cleaning solutions, but sometimes they're not quite as good as they seem. That's the case with oil, or oily substances like peanut butter. Keep them off your couches, shoes, and other leather.

LIFE AS A HUMAN ? Tips To Survive A Long Distance Relationship

Let?s be real, no one wants to be in along distance relationship (LDR).

Well, I?ve got news for everyone: you can do a long distance relationship, and it?s not that bad. Any good, healthy relationship requires three main components; trust, respect, and communication. I would argue that communication is the most important of these three things. As more people are embarking on LDRs they?re finding that being anywhere from one hour, fourteen hours, or 10 different countries apart will put some serious stress on any well intentioned couple.

When I met D in Seattle at the end of summer 2010, and I fully intended to have a summer fling with him and send him back to Utah to never see him again. Unfortunately, he turned out to be unexplainably awesome and I fell super hard super fast. Even though he was great, as he moved back to Utah I was still skeptical about how long things would last and if he was worth the pain and emotional stress of a LDR. I heard my own voice ringing through my head, ?I could just never do a long distance relationship,? I had said so many times to other friends. Well, here I am two years later finished with college, working a fabulous job, and living in Salt Lake City instead of Seattle.

This is not how I envisioned my life going, and I can say with 5000% certainty that I would not be where I am today if I had been with out a few essential technologies.

1 ? Snail Mail

So, I usually imagine romantic LDRs being between a man and woman separated by war. Usually they write each other deliciously sappy love letters until the man either dies heroically, or they?re reunited and live happily ever after. Fortunately, snail mail, a somewhat out-dated technology, still exists. For those of you wondering how to keep things cute when you?re a million miles away I?ve got three great solutions: overnighted fresh baked cookies, cute letters with your perfume sprayed on them, and packages filled with ?survival goodies? for when the other person is having a tough week. Snail mail may be an ?outdated? technology, but either direction the letter is going, it makes the recipient feel loved and more connected for a day or two. Letters are especially great because, if you fail a test and need a hug, you obviously can?t get one, but you can read your old letters and feel a little bit better that at least you?ve got a nice boyfriend, even if your GPA sucks.

2 ? Good Internet

What do I mean by ?good? internet? I mean, you have 15 roommates, and you can still Skype. Because, uh? the boys down stairs hogging all your bandwidth to play xbox live really don?t understand that you just want to see your boyfriends face not pixelated for, like, 5 minutes. Exceptional internet also assures high quality chats, easy photo sharing, and the possibility to watch the same show on Hulu together in different states. Verizon FiOS is definitely a superior product, though it?s not available everywhere. It promises high speeds at peak hours of the day, and reassures needy Skypers that the faces of their loved ones will show up clearly, even with roommates. I cannot stress enough the beauty, and necessity of Skype for staying in touch and keeping tabs on your boyfriends unruly mustache.

3 ? A Smart Phone

While you can probably get by with a phone equipped with photo-taking abilities, it really is better to have a smart phone. The beauty of a smart phone is that you become a resource for each other. Not only can you share photos, videos, voice files, and track each others exact location, you can almost ?hang out? together. You can send emails containing links, documents, stupid things your mom says, etc. to your boo while you?re busy without missing a beat. You can play games together: Words With Friends (using only dirty or bad words) was one of our favorites. A smart phone allows you to communicate like a normal couple, and helps you forget about the distance while building a fun friendship with the other person at the same time.

For me what made my LDR work was the promise that it would be over someday, and we would live a hell of a lot closer. A screen shot from my iPhone of where exactly I was on my drive as I moved between states was the greatest moment of this relationship for both of us. ?I am in the middle of nowhere, but it?s exactly 852.65 miles away from you, and this long distance bull shiz is almost over!!?

Using snail mail, the best internet I could find, and buying an iPhone, helped us plan, prepare, and discuss the details of making this happen. I think investing in devices and services what improve your communication give your LDR a real fighting chance.

Being in love with someone who has to be far away bites, but with some assistance from our beautiful world of technology, I really believe it?s do-able ?because I?ve done it.

NASA building a better solid rocket booster for Space Launch System rocket

ScienceDaily (Oct. 2, 2012) ? The largest and most powerful solid rocket booster ever built for flight is being assembled for NASA's Space Launch System at ATK Space Systems in Brigham City, Utah, incorporating new cost-savings measures. The SLS will launch NASA's Orion spacecraft and other payloads beyond low Earth orbit, and provide an entirely new capability for human exploration.

Although similar to the solid rocket boosters that helped power the space shuttle to orbit, the five-segment SLS boosters include several upgrades and improvements implemented by NASA and ATK engineers. In addition, the SLS boosters will be built more affordably and efficiently than shuttle boosters, incorporating new and innovative processes and technologies.

"America's next steps in deep space exploration build on the lessons learned from our nation's rich human spaceflight history. By using the best-of-the-best from shuttle and improving on previous investments, we will produce the needed solid booster for the first SLS flights," said Dan Dumbacher, NASA's deputy associate administrator for Exploration Systems Development at NASA's headquarters in Washington, D.C. "We are encouraged by the progress being made at ATK. Their commitment to deliver a safe and high-quality rocket booster is vital as we build SLS to enable exploration to new frontiers in the solar system."

New process improvements have been implemented throughout the manufacturing of Qualification Motor-1, the next full-scale test article for SLS booster. Four case segments have now been cast, and the motor will begin assembly in the test stand next month in preparation for a ground test in the spring of 2013.

Implementing new handling processes, ATK estimates the total assembly time for the SLS booster can be reduced by approximately 46 percent overall. In one area, ATK optimized inspection methods and replaced x-ray inspections with an ultrasonic examination of the booster's nozzle, allowing technicians to evaluate the hardware on the production floor. In another, ATK reduced the number of moves from 47 to seven during one phase of booster assembly, reducing the chance of any damage in transit and greatly reducing the time it takes to complete that production process.

"By improving upon proven Space Shuttle solid rocket motor hardware and operations, our shared goal is to deliver a safe, affordable and sustainable launch vehicle," said Alex Priskos, SLS booster manager at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. "We are embracing innovation both technically and in our management processes as we design and build SLS. Through the use of new streamlined approaches and techniques we have been able to drive down costs and enhance the reliability of the hardware."

The booster team has successfully completed its Booster Requirements Review confirming the five-segment solid rocket motor had a well-understood set of requirements. The review, held at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, included independent consultants and determined the team is ready to proceed to a Preliminary Design Review in 2013.

The initial 70-metric-ton (77 ton) configuration of the SLS will provide 10 percent more thrust than the Saturn V rocket at liftoff. The rocket's first stage will be powered by four RS-25 former space shuttle main engines flanked by two five-segment solid rocket boosters. The SLS solid rocket boosters will generate a combined 7.2 million pounds of thrust to help power the massive rocket off the launch pad.

The Marshall Center manages the SLS Program for the agency and is working closely with our partners at the Orion program office managed by NASA's Johnson Space Flight Center in Houston and the Ground Systems Development and Operations Program, which manage the operations and launch facilities at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Tman and I lived in England for several years when we were first married. We had the time of our life traveling every weekend and exploring new countries. The only downside to living in England was that it could be a bit lonely around the holidays when you weren't able to return home to family.

My favorite stop was always the beauty counters. With their inviting petite packages and colorful displays offering the promise of luxury, beauty and eternal youth who could possibly pass that by? Some of the popular counters included estee lauder and Givenchy, both well-known brands with a long history of providing quality cosmetics.

Now that we no longer live in London I can still get my Harrods fix by visiting the beauty counters online. I can get my advanced night repair serum from?estee lauder and my Mr. Perfect eraser pen from Givenchy?satisfying my luxury, beauty and Harrods sweet tooth all at the same time.

With the holidays approaching I am sure to be found cruising the internet and making a stop at one of my favorite stores in the world - Harrods.

Cano back in lineup after being hit by pitch

TORONTO (AP) -Robinson Cano is set to start at second base and bat fourth for the New York Yankees against the Toronto Blue Jays a day after getting hit in the hand by a pitch.

X-rays of Cano's left hand were negative.

Cano was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning of Friday's 11-4 victory over Toronto. He stayed in the game and batted twice more.

Also, infielder Jayson Nix left the team Saturday to fly back to New York, where he's scheduled to undergo an MRI on his left hip. Manager Joe Girardi said Nix was injured making a play at third base in Thursday's series opener.

Nix's absence leaves Eduardo Nunez as New York's primary backup infielder. Nunez is in the starting lineup Saturday at shortstop. Derek Jeter is the designated hitter.
